The Vertical Village Film for The Vertical Village exhibition by MVRDV and The Why Factory at Museum of Tomorrow in Taipei.
(Taipei, October 4th 2011) MVRDV, The Why Factory and the JUT Foundation opened the fourth edition of the exhibition series Museum of Tomorrow in Taipei. Under the title The Vertical Village the exhibition explores the rapid urban transformation in East Asia, the qualities of urban villages and the potential to realize this in a much denser, vertical way as a radical alternative to the identical block architecture with standard apartments and its consequences for the city.

4/11 Welcome to the VerticalVillage.
5/11 Every week a new house is built and a new neighbour becomes part of our community. So do new shops, facilities and gardens.
6/11 Climbing its stairs you find communal gardens with trees and small ponds, with sunbeams and views to the surrounding city.
7/11 You have your own tailor-made villa with a beautiful garden near the city centre.
8/11 It’s almost like the way they used to live in Asia’s urban villages. Now those village qualities are available three-dimensionally, which makes them even more fascinating!
9/11 Sunlight is bought for a part of the day, so for example every afternoon you enjoy your garden and the singing birds while chatting with your neighbours.
10/11 We don’t know how this Vertical Village will look like in the coming years, but we certainly know that it will become even livelier and more interesting to live in as it continues to grow over time . . .
